About Me

My photo
When i left school back then i was lucky enough to enroll on an engineering apprenticeship. I think this lead me in good stead. I was always one of those children that pulled things apart but actually put them back together again. My first engine given to me at the age of Seven, a Triang Princess Elizabeth. The rest as they say is History. Later in life i got back in to Model Railways and started building Pine Road. This could lead anywhere so i hope you enjoy my Blog.

Hornby and there Terrier

Having purchased a Rails of Sheffield Terrier then adding sound myself, perhaps I was the only one but it ran perfectly on DC (before adding sound) and just as well on DCC.
As anyone who knows me knows I have a soft spot for the LSWR  I couldn't resist buying a Hornby version.
Having heard problems with running issues, I bit the bullet and bought one. I wasn't to be disappointed, yes, it had the same running issue that so many people have complained about.
Now here's the issue, on DCC it's perfect,
it will crawl all day long. Putting aside that Two of the pick-ups were not touching the wheels. (Easily solved)
Removing the decoder and it's a different beast. Will it crawl ? Will it hell!
After being informed that I hadn't run it in correctly and that the carbon brushes needed bedding in, may be the case back in the seventies but knowing that most modern motors these days tend to have basically, two pieces of wire contacts made from a type of precious metal.
I watched this guy's video that explains all. Very well documented and informative.
Glad it's not just me.
